Sidon is home to some of the largest and most authentic souks in Lebanon, and on this half-day excursion you’ll take a wander around to witness all the sights, sounds, and smells of Sidon as it’s been for hundreds of years. Stroll by fruits and veg stands with the proprietors bellowing out today’s hot offer and peer into bakeries where workers create perfect circles of dough before arranging them onto long planks and launching them into fiery stone ovens. Your guide will navigate you to some of the old town’s greatest landmarks – including the Great Omari Mosque and Crusader Sea Castle – and you’ll also have a tour of the Soap Museum. The practice of soap making has been Sidon’s strong point since the 17th century, and an amble through the museum dedicated to this traditional craft makes for an interesting stop-off (and excellent place to pick up souvenirs!)
Please note that south Lebanon is a more conservative area of the country and largely a Sunni Muslim community, so any visitors should dress more conservatively here, with at least shoulders and knees covered.
